Bolivia is a beautiful country with snowcapped mountains and majestic vistas!  On this trip, we will be staying in La Paz and taking the cable car lift up to El Alto to work in the ministry center. This is a Human Trafficking mission in the red-light district in El Alto. There are 3,000 registered prostitutes working in this area and likely many more than that. Our ministry partners have been working in this area for almost 20 years and have never had the chance for a medical team to come alongside them and help them extend their outreach even further into the community. We will be bringing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ along with our health care.

We will be working with the Community Health Center in La Paz. They will be bringing a mobile unit to help with HIV screening. They have requested an Infection Disease doctor to teach them up-to-date treatment of HIV. They are also interested in learning about cervical cancer screening from our gynecologists. They are excited to have a medical team that cares enough to come alongside them and work with this vulnerable population. We will be bringing them public health HIV and STI disease prevention materials as well.

Visa Requirements: Upon landing in Bolivia, you must obtain your Bolivia Visa (valid for 10 years) at an additional cost of $160.  You must take a Mastercard or Visa credit card with you to pay this additional cost at the airport.

NOTE: This trip is in the mountains of Bolivia. We will be staying in La Paz which is at 10,000 ft. elevation and riding up to El Alto at 13,000 ft. We are leaving a day early to give us an extra day to acclimate to the elevation before starting our clinic. If you are sensitive to higher elevations or have any history of high-altitude illness (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) this trip will not be for you.

For more information about the trip, please email the team leader, Trish Burgess, MD, at [email protected].
