Ayacucho, Peru (PT, Medical, Dental)
In 2000, the first medical project team was sent to Peru. The work has expanded quickly and now over 250 volunteers travel to Peru annually. Tania Catacora has been the MMI Peru National Director since 2010 when MMI Peru was incorporated in the country. Since 2001, Tania has been training local leadership and developing new initiatives to bring MMI Peru to where it is today, with an incredible, dedicated staff team that is committed to providing excellent physiotherapy care in their permanent center.
Our Dental Care Program provides a variety of services including fluoride treatments, sealants, dental cleanings, extractions, and restorative procedures on most our projects. Primary Care services include consultations, lab procedures, filling prescriptions, parasite treatments, sonograms, audiology screening, ear cleanings, and wellness checks. Physiotherapy services include consultations, assessments, fittings of walkers, wheelchairs and other assistive devices. The team will be staffed with North American volunteers and MMI Peru.
Participants are expected to fundraise on behalf of Medical Ministry International to help raise the funds necessary to cover the budgeted costs of the Project Teams. These fundraising goal minimums include accommodations, meals, basic medical insurance, and malpractice insurance. Air fare is not included.
We have implemented rigorous biosafety, patient management, and project team safety protocols in response to COVID-19. Agreement to follow protocols will be required as part of the online application process. Current information regarding COVID-19 will be provided as Medical Ministry International monitors the global impacts of the pandemic.
