Togo is a West African country with an estimated population of 8 million. It is bordered by Burkina Faso in the North, Ghana to the West and Benin to its East. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the coastal region of Togo served primarily as a European slave trading outpost. Togo gained independence from France in 1960. The Gnassingbe' family has ruled Togo since 1967. In 2024 Gnassingbe presented a new constitution. One of the constitutional changes in the new constitution has Togo go from being under a presidential system to being under a parliamentary system. He desired to strengthen the power of parliament; and strengthening the power of the prime minister. The office was re-named, the office "President of the Council of Ministers." The reform officially came into effect on May 3, 2025, where the first indirect election of the country was held. Jean-Lucien Savi de Tove was unanimously elected as the new president, while Gnassingbe became the president of the Council of Ministers.

Togo is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation whose economy depends mostly on agriculture. The climate is warm all year round with with temperatures ranging from 73 to 86 degrees. The official language is French with 39 distinct languages spoken in the country. Children are required to receive 6 years of education. The education system has suffered as a result of teacher shortages and lower educational quality especially in rural areas.

The life expectancy for men is age 62 and 67 for women. Malaria deaths are high in Togo and are due to very limited access to mosquito nets and malaria treatment.  Many people have never met a physician.  Please consider joining Missions Partners for Christ in providing a 4-day medical clinic for the unreached and underserved people of Togo.  We will work with our established partners that are very invested in the communities we serving. Our hosts are very involved in evangelism, discipleship and church planting. You can use your gifts, talents and resources to serve God’s people through this medical outreach. In so doing, you will strengthen your faith, meet some incredible people and maybe even witness God’s healing powers firsthand.

***Sorry, all spaces are full for non-medical participants

This is to ensure that our volunteers have the most positive experience over all.
