Cameroon ACLS & Neurology Team Focused Trip Details: 

Mbingo Baptist Hospital, Cameroon : 22 - 27 June 2026 with travel dates before/after the teaching week
 
  1. Team Leader: Dr. Nicole Baldwin & Dr. Jeff Kraakevik
  2. Purpose: ACLS certification, Neurology Teaching
  3. Onsite Hosts: Dr. Keith Streatfeild at Mbingo Baptist Hospital
Which trains:
Postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, and Surgery (PAACS site).
Nurse Anesthetists
Medical House Officers
 
  1. Team size DESIRED: 6 (4 ACLS providers + 2 neurologists)
  2. Additional topics requested to teach: Nursing Education and Sharing Bad News & Cross Cultural Team Communication Skills
  3. Lodging info: Single rooms in Hospital Hostel with food provided
  4. In country Transport: All visitors are transported in Hospital vehicles by experienced and trained hospital drivers
  5. Travel suggestions: Arrival in Yaounde, Cameroon. Internal Transport will be arranged from the airport by the hospital.  No travel allowed on Mondays.
  6. Cost: $100/day +  typical airfare.  Visitors normally share the cost of internal transport from Airport - total around $300. Accommodation for visitors is $8 per night and meals are about $5
  7. Common Airlines: Air France & Air Canada
  8. Schedule, typical: 2 day ACLS Train the trainer followed by 2 day co-led ACLS/Neurological Emergencies Course.  Neurologists will potentially teach at other nearby hospital as well.  
  9. Language: teaching language is English
  10. VISA: required, $93 cost
  11. Trip details: February- May, October ideal visit times avoiding major holidays including Muslim holidays. 
  12. Currency: Cameroonian francs
  13. Climate: Wet season from mid-March to mid-November. Daytime temperatures vary between 65 – 90 degF
  14. Culture: Black African population. In the rural region of Mbingo, the population is predominately Christian in name, with Moslem Fulbe people coexisting.  At the hospital, and surrounding villages, most people have finished High school education. Underlying the Christian or Islamic beliefs, there is a strong cultural emphasis on the spiritual forces of life.

The hospital is in a region of civil conflict, but visitors come and go without threat
